Heat vegetable oil over medium heat.

Shred roast beef, if needed.
Add roast beef to beef consomme and keep over medium heat.

Butter one side of each piece of bread and toast on a griddle.
Remove roast beef from consomme and place on half the French bread slices.
Place sauteed onions on top of roast beef.
Break provolone cheese in half and place 4 halves total on top of onions.
Finish it off by closing up the sandwich and use remaining consomme for dipping.
