  1. Wash dal twice properly. Soak for 1/2 an hrs. Boil the dal. Wait for 3 whistle. Once it is done. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in kadai. Once the oil is hot. Fry onion and tomato till it become light brown in colour. Add salt the onion and tomato cook fast. Then add all the dry ingredients, salt and green chilli, ginger and garlic paste. Saute it for few minutes.
  3. Then add dal. Add water as needed. If you want gravy then add little water. Boil for 3 minutes. For tempering. In another kadai. Add oil, cumin seeds, curry leaves and 1 dry red chilli. Let it crackle. Then pour to the dal. Stir it and cook for another few minutes. Once it is done
  4. Transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, fry onion and 1 dry red chilli. This is main course. It goes well with pulkas.
